Bracken County is located in Northern Kentucky along the Ohio River conveniently only a day trip away from Cincinnati, Lexington, and the Ashland areas.
Bracken County's economy is largely agricultural. “White burley tobacco, a light, adaptable leaf that revolutionized the industry, was first produced in 1867 from Bracken County seed.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bracken_County,_Kentucky) In the 1870’s we were one of the nation’s leaders in wine production. The Baker-Bird Winery in Augusta is the oldest estate winery in America! Communities in Bracken County include Augusta, Brooksville, Germantown, and Milford. In addition to our agricultural history, Bracken County was the site of a booming shipping port, saw and grist mills, and many other small manufacturing companies. Agriculture continues to be a vital source for the county’s economy, and our farmland is as hard working as it is beautiful. Many farms continue to produce tobacco, corn, and hay. And many more farms have diversified their products and services to include: · Grapes and wine · Blackberries · Blueberries · Lavender · Honey · Apples · Pay Lakes · Horseback Riding · Canoeing · Soaps · Salsa · Handmade crafts
